Warm bedroom interior with a woven cane bed, timber joinery, a bench and layered lighting

Grounded, cool rooms at the foot of Arunachala.

This family home sits in the temple town of Thiruvannamalai, in the shadow of the sacred hill of Arunachala. The plan is contemporary and calm, warmed throughout by a distinctly South Indian material palette. Cane and solid timber, stone floors and soft, layered lighting give each room a sense of weight and coolness.

Interiors are designed to feel restful rather than showy, with each space opening to light and greenery. Warm cove lighting, honest materials and quiet detailing carry through the house, so the architecture and the way it is furnished read as one continuous idea.
